The School

Background & History Babraham School Building (10K)

The School was founded in 1732 and was originally sited in the centre of the village.  The present building, a few hundred metres from the original, was built in 1959.  We are a voluntary controlled Church of England primary school run by the Cambridgeshire Local Education Authority.

The school roll has increased to our present roll of 69.  As the roll has increased we have expanded the school buildings, adding to classroom, office and storage space.

The school has an appeal to families far beyond Babraham and well over half the children attend from Cambridge and neighbouring villages.  Cambridge is a centre for European high technology and we always welcome a number of overseas children in school whilst their parents are working at nearby research and technology establishments.

During recent years children from Italy, USA, China, Japan, Colombia, France, Germany, Norway, Finland, Portugal, Bulgaria, Russia and Turkey have attended the school.
